Yard Truck Driver

Infra-Metals, a leading distributor of metal products and value-added processing services, is seeking a reliable and experienced Yard Truck Driver to join our Tampa team.

In this essential role, you will support warehouse operations by safely moving and positioning tractor-trailers within the yard. You will ensure trailers are properly staged for loading, unloading, and transport to keep production on schedule. This position requires precision, strong safety awareness, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, safety-sensitive environment.

Function in the Job:

Medium/Heavy work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Job Functions

Trailer & Yard Operations:

• Operate gasoline or diesel-powered yard trucks to move trailers for loading and unloading.
• Reposition tractor-trailers within the yard and into warehouse bays as needed.
• Connect brake air lines safely and correctly.
• Spot and move trailers for shipping and receiving throughout the shift.
• Maintain constant radio communication with warehouse team members.
• Coordinate with multiple departments to complete tasks efficiently.
• Handle multiple requests and shifting priorities during the shift.

Safety & Equipment:

• Perform daily safety checks on trailers and equipment.
• Walk the yard to identify and document vehicle defects.
• Report equipment damage immediately.
• Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
• Attend required safety meetings and training sessions.
• Operate equipment with a high level of focus and driving skill.

Teamwork & Accountability:

• Demonstrate dependable attendance and punctuality.
• Clock in and out using the company timekeeping system.
• Maintain a positive attitude and work collaboratively with coworkers.
• Take on special projects or additional duties as assigned by management.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements:

• Stand, sit, and walk for extended periods.
• Lift up to 50 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs occasionally.
• Perform heavy pushing and pulling.
• Climb in and out of yard trucks and navigate stairs.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain).
• Work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and short-notice coverage as needed.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Required:

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
• Valid Drivers License.
• Ability to safely operate a truck in accordance with MVR standards.
• Strong safety awareness and attention to detail.

Preferred:

• CDL (Commercial Drivers License).
• Experience operating heavy-capacity forklifts.
• Material handling experience.
• Prior experience working with steel products.
