Job Description

The Monitor Technician plays a key role within the Nursing Monitor Techs department, supporting a 32-bed surgical telemetry unit that provides continuous care to individuals recovering from surgical procedures and experiencing cardiac arrhythmias. As part of this department, the Monitor Technician helps ensure accurate cardiac observation and timely communication directly supporting clinical decision-making. The Monitor Technician is essential to maintaining safe, uninterrupted cardiac monitoring operations. The Monitor Technician works in close collaboration with nursing staff and other clinical personnel to track, document, and communicate changes in cardiac rate and rhythm. This role requires a high level of focus, attention to detail, and reliability to support patient outcomes throughout each shift. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, adaptable to varied and rotating schedules, and experienced in monitoring cardiac rhythms in a clinical environment. A strong understanding of EKG patterns, patient monitoring procedures, and accurate clinical documentation practices is highly valued, along with demonstrated reliability in fast-paced hospital settings. Minimum $18.27 - Midpoint $22.84 - Maximum $27.40 The typical work schedule is Nights, Rotating, Varied, Weekends from 7 p – 7 a. Work Location: Onsite in the Texas Medical Center. Why Us? Responsibilities Telemetry Monitoring & Documentation Monitor and document EKG and cardiac rhythms continuously. Observe and record non‑invasive blood pressure readings and pulse oximetry measurements. Identify changes in cardiac rate or rhythm and promptly report findings to nursing staff. Maintain accurate records of all admissions, discharges, and transfers. Update and manage telemetry logs with precise and timely information. Patient Care Support Support nursing staff with critical data needed for patient assessment. Contribute to patient safety by maintaining continuous observation of assigned monitors. Operational Accuracy Ensure correct operation and observation of monitoring equipment. Follow all established procedures for telemetry documentation and workflow. Communication Relay urgent clinical information immediately to the responsible nurse. Coordinate with clinical staff to support workflow across the telemetry unit. Other Duties Perform additional tasks as assigned to support departmental operations.

EDUCATION

Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent Preferred: Successful completion of a basic cardiac arrhythmia course. Work Experience Required: 1 year prior experience in EKG / cardiac monitoring.

Required: BLS – Basic Life Support Upon Hire.
